Model Parvathi on finding her place in the Indian fashion industry
Destination SuperModel has an exciting feature for you today—a spotlight on fashion model Parvathi in Lakkars magazine! I first met Parvathi through a friend at an exhibition. She kindly offered me personal guidance as an aspiring model and truly left an impression with her warmth and authenticity. Her journey and insights are both inspiring and instructive. Enjoy!
Performance is at the core of what Parvathi does. As a contemporary dancer, she channels sentimentality through movement, a graceful gait, and emotional expression—elements ingrained early on during her teenage training.
It was only when she added ‘artist and model’ to her repertoire that she realized there was a niche for more people who looked and felt like her. “When I started modeling, I realized that I am beautiful, and being my authentic self brings out the best in me,” she says. “I believe the fashion industry has always been better at representation,” she shares her experience of finding her place in the vibrant, diverse world of fashion.

Considering how much society’s view of dress influences you, do you feel that fashion has impacted your personal identity?
Parvathi: Fashion has always given me the freedom to express who I am. Even as a kid, I loved dressing up in bright colors and never faced judgment, just because others thought it was trendy.
Do you think your presence in the fashion scene has provided you with a platform and a sense of responsibility to raise or speak out about issues?
Parvathi: Recently, a follower on Instagram messaged me, saying “You’re an inspiration to many, and you give me hope that I can do anything and be someone too.” That really made my day. I also want to encourage others in the community who think things don’t work out for them—because nothing is impossible if you’re willing to try.

How do you see your influence helping support the modeling industry?
Parvathi: I believe I can show aspiring models that this industry is very accepting, and everyone has a chance. Hopefully, that encourages them to be themselves and not pretend to be someone else, knowing they’ll be supported.
Beyond modeling, what are some of your passions and hobbies?
Parvathi: I love to dance. It’s always helped me express myself. I also enjoy fashion styling and dressing up.
Is there a designer you dream of working with?
Parvathi: Dior and Versace are my top picks— I’d be thrilled to collaborate with them.

What trend would you like to try but haven’t yet?
Parvathi: I’ve always wanted to try the grunge look, with tattooed skin and dyed hair. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Finally, can you pick three items from your wardrobe that best reflect your personal style?
Parvathi: I’ve shifted from a colorful wardrobe to a more minimal style. My everyday go-to pieces are a plain white vest, blue jeans, and my favourite black boots.
