plus-size clothing brands that are stylish and size-inclusive
We all know trying to find a good pair of jeans, whatever your size, is an absolute nightmare on the high street – but multiply that by 100 when you are over a size 18. The fashion industry has notoriously not had our backs – or even our waist size, for that matter.
We’ve seen brands come and go, extended size lines being catapulted to the headlines and then fizzle out when no-one knew they were in store, and plenty of other problematic issues when it comes to plus size clothing (namely, the amount of plus-size models on the fashion week runways).
If you are reading this and are above a size 18, you know that it’s an unwritten rule if you see a fellow plus-size person in an amazing outfit; you tell them. You make a proper fuss and almost certainly ask where their look is from, too, because finding genuinely good clothes for plus-sized bodies is no mean feat.
So, I’ve done the hard work for everyone and have found what I believe to be the best women’s plus-size clothing brands that I would recommend to a friend, a stranger on the street and, of course, all of you reading this in a heartbeat.
These are the labels I truly believe are at the top of the game for authentic inclusivity; brands who have stood the test of time, some that I do think could do better but I still believe in, and, by no means least, some insanely talented independent brands such as Ester Manas, Karoline Vitto and Sinead O’Dwyer taking huge financial risks in production, sizing and sustainability.
These are the designers that are giving us exactly what we want: fun, current, and exciting fashion trends that often us plus size humans are completely left out from. They’re not only giving us a seat at the table, but they are also throwing in a reclining chair for us to feel fully comfortable too.
1. Ganni
Size range: from a UK 6 – 24.
We all know a Ganni girl, whether they are in one of the iconic jumpers or galavanting around the streets of fashion week in those insta-worthy buckle ballerina flats. I love that Ganni have extended their sizes, let’s show these brands love when they do because we want more from others.
2. Rixo
Size range: from UK 6 – 26.
If you are looking for a brand that is very cutesy and very demure, it is Rixo. Beautiful floral maxis, sweetheart necklaces, pussy bows and cottagecore prints. Rixo recently extended their line to go up to a UK 26, showing more and more brands can increase their sizing; the demand is there. They also have a beautiful store on King’s Road in London, which is a dreamland experience itself, and the fact you can shop plus sizes in IRL wins for me.
3. Simply Be
Size range: up to a UK 32.
Simply Be is one of the UK’s leading plus-size clothing brands, with sizes ranging up to a UK32. One of the things I also love about Simply Be is their range of wide-fit and wide-calf shoes and boots. We all know trying to find that perfect knee-high boot for the colder seasons can be tricky when a lot of these boots don’t have any stretch.
4. ASOS Curve
Size range: from a UK 18 – 30.
I believe ASOS is one of the OG’s in plus-size fashion. Back in 2014, ASOS was the top destination for curve pieces and was at the top of its game for bringing fun, playful, stylish and trendy pieces to our community. Whether you need simple classics like bodysuits, loungewear, sweaters or swimsuits, or occasion wear like fashion-forward sequin luxe party items or a great pair of wide-leg jeans, they were the site for this. With over 1,000 pieces still going strong for this brand, they are still an absolute staple for us. One little tip with ASOS – ASOS Tall also reaches a size 20.
