World’s best designers turn to nature for inspiration

The Earth’s ecosystem is spectacular and mysterious in its infinite details. Often, nature’s diverse elements of flora, fauna, jungle and aquatic life have inspired fashion designers worldwide – be it the hues of the ocean and the skyline or the patterns of leaves, flower blooms or even marine species. The easiest and the most complicated features have coloured designers’ canvas and resulted in stunning ensembles that exude the essence of nature, its superior aesthetics and a message to let its beauty be, in its purest form.

Versace

This is Versace’s reinterpretation of its iconic green jungle print runway dress from 2000. Its flowy, nature-defined design presents palm embroidery teamed with leaf-cut sandals.

Iris Van Herpen

Known for her extraordinary fluid silhouettes, Iris van Herpen is influenced by nature’s diverse facets. For her Spring/Summer 2020 Sensory Seas edit, she created Nautiloid, a dress which features translucent layers of blue, green and ochre meshwork and 3D laser-cut bubbles that mirror the anthropology of a marine organism.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana opted for a jungle-themed runway for their Spring/Summer’20. Floral and animal prints, safari-style apparel, pineapple patchworks and motifs, exotic headwear and a range of colours taken from nature’s landscape, every outfit was styled like a piece from Jumanji or Tarzan.
