Meghan Markle Delivers a Mic Drop Fashion

Meghan Markle has stunned at her final engagement as a senior member of the Royal Family, and the world is living for it. On March 9, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended Commonwealth Day services at Westminster Abbey, and although the couple did not participate in the royal procession at the event, fans did get a glimpse of them on their way into the ceremony. Since they arrived in London last week to wrap up their duties as senior royals, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have delivered a master class in classic dressing. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do everything with style, and their final event was no exception. At today’s Commonwealth Day celebrations, the pair arrived at Westminster Abbey looking like they’d just stepped out of a fashion editorial—much to the delight of the crowds waiting outside. His tailored blue suit with turquoise tie perfectly complimented her emerald Emilia Wick stead dress with built-in cape, another example of the couple’s habit of subtly matching.

The details of the Duchess’s look asserted her status as a tastemaker. Everything from the sculptural Gabriela Hearst ‘Demi’ bag to her vibrant William Chambers fascinator worked in her favor. Green is a notoriously difficult color to wear (the verdant dresses worn by Kate Middleton on her tour of Ireland offer another example of the shade done right), but Markle made it seem effortless.

Throughout her time in the royal spotlight, Markle has used her wardrobe to champion British fashion talent, female creative, and designers of color. Her departure from the house of Windsor should allow her greater freedom of expression—in and out of the fashion sphere—but it leaves a hole within the staid world of royal dressing. Still, the Duchess went out with a bang, bringing life to the proceedings with a vibrant style moment. The annual Commonwealth Service on Monday marks Meghan and Harry’s last official royal appearance as they joined Kate and William and the rest of the royal family for the celebrations. The royal family reunion was four months in the making, as the two couples hadn’t been seen together since they stepped out for Remembrance Day events in November. Harry and Meghan made their return to the UK last week as they set out on a final round of royal engagements before they officially step down as working royals on March 31.
